This exhibit opened 12 December 1999 at the Macao Art Museum, marking
the first time that these objects from the Palace Museum in Beijing
have been made available for public view. One hundred twenty pieces
dating from the reigns of the emperors Kangxi (r. 1662-1722), Yongzheng
(r. 1723-1735), and Qianlong (1736-1795) reflect the style and features
of Chinese art during the High Qing. Fifty paintings, nine calligraphy
scrolls, and sixty other objects in various media comprise the exhibit.
The paintings on display include the hanging scroll Ten Thousand
Nations Come to Court and the handscroll Qing Officials Offering
Sacrifices among the many large-scale works that contain calligraphy
by the three emperors. Also in the exhibit are globes, astrological
maps, and numerous porcelains manufactured during the Kangxi reign.
